Our Ethos

The heart of Crossways

Our driving principle is the healing of the whole person - in body, mind and spirit. Our houses are places where people can feel accepted and gain insight into their lives, grow in confidence and develop to their full potential.

We see mental ill-health as an invisible enemy and our residents as heroes. Every day they face an ongoing battle with the symptoms of their particular illness, whether this is schizophrenia, paranoia, depression or anxiety.

Jesus at the centre

In addition to providing exemplary care and support, Crossways' core focus is on Jesus, with the knowledge that His love can heal people and make them whole. As practising Christians, Crossways staff aim to serve God and vulnerable people through their work, regularly praying for residents' needs. Reflection time is made available in the middle of each day, in the Chapel, for staff and residents to focus on God.

The environment of Crossways

Staff work within national care and support standards, with the help of professionals (such as psychiatrists, community psychiatric nurses and social workers), to ensure that each resident's mental health needs are fully catered for. Many residents find the friendships developed at Crossways and being part of a nurturing community are solid stepping stones towards achieving stable mental health.

Equality and acceptance

We believe that each resident is precious in God's eyes. We treat everyone with dignity and respect, in the hope that residents will also view themselves and each other in the same way.
